Leisure

I am slowly wading through the book Leisure: the Basis of Culture and I am still pretty much lost! I really appreciate everyone's insights. Although I really have nothing to add, I wanted to share a little bit of synchronicity that occurred here this morning. The kids and I are reading every morning from Favorite Poems Old and New and this morning we read the following:

Leisure
William H. Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Nothing profound by far, but I do love it when things fall in our lap so to speak. Well I was going to pull out a few quotes from the text that spoke to me in a way, but the baby's crying. And thus ends my few moments of "leisure."

Thank you for sharing the poem! Funny thing...our reading in Parables of Nature sort of matched up today, as well. I love it when the learning is everywhere, don't you? :)

A woman after my own heart. I was thinking of posting several poems in reference to the book. Wonderful!!

Wow, I'm impressed that you're reading this! I want to read it too, but haven't gotten my hands on the book yet.

I've only made it through the first part .... and I think the discussion group has sort of fizzled out!
